Welcome to Peak 2020
Chatsworth House, Derbyshire

Peak camps have run since 1974, and have been held every 5 years since 1980. The camps have been held in the grounds of Chatsworth House and are organised as a joint venture by Derbyshire Scouts and Girlguiding Derbyshire.

The most recent event, Peak 2015, attracted over 4,500 young people from across Derbyshire, the UK and other countries. Alongside these young people were their leaders and over 1,500 staff. In total we had 7,000 residential campers along with daily visitors and day staff.

Peak 2020 will run from 25th July-1st August and we have, once again, been given permission by the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire to use the Chatsworth Estate. Our site starts as a green field and our team of volunteers transform it into a fully operational tented village.

Over the coming months, we will be updating our website with much more information – keep an eye out for volunteer roles, sub camp information, our shop and much more.

When and where is Peak 2020?

The International Camp will be held between Saturday 25th July and Saturday 1st August in the grounds of the Chatsworth House Estate, Bakewell, Derbyshire.

What if I’m a member of Network/Senior Section

Network and Senior Section over the age of 18 are eligible to volunteer as part of the Peak staff team you must hold a satisfactory DBS/PVG check. It will be possible for Staff to camp with their Group, although they may want to consider camping with their respective staff team in the staff camping area.

What will be the first aid provision on the camp?

Each unit will have a designated first aider and any minor injuries should, in the first instance, be directed to them. There will be a team of mobile first aiders provided by the camp and a medical centre on site for more urgent injuries/ailments.

Will a group leaders and staff handbook be issued?

Probably not, but there will be plenty of information coming your way.

How old do I need to be to attend as a participant?

The camp is open to Scouts and Guides from the UK and other countries. The camp is geared up for those age ranges, but there will be provision for Derbyshire Explorers and Rangers to attend on different packages.

What if I’m over 18? Can I still come?

Yes, we are looking for volunteers with a whole range of experience and specialist skills or who just want to come and help to fill our many staff roles. The cost to attend as a staff member and help deliver Peak is £110 fully catered (or £40 without catering). However, you must hold a satisfactory DBS/PVG check. If my Explorer/Ranger Unit are not coming to camp, can I come on my own?

Yes, we intend to create a pseudo unit as part of the sub-camp team and individual Explorers/Rangers can apply to be part of that unit.

When can I register for Peak 2020?

Registration for Derbyshire groups and International groups opens on 1st January 2019 and from 1st April 2019 for all other groups.

FAQs Costs

How much does it cost for Explorers/Rangers? (this applies to Derbyshire only)

Full participants (under 16) – £195, 50/50 (working half the week and taking part in activities the other half) – £100, full time staff (over 16’s only) – £40

What is the closing date for bookings?

The closing date for bookings will be 31st December 2019 or whenever all places are taken – whichever comes sooner.

How much does it cost to bring my group to camp?

The cost to full participants for Peak 2020 is £195

How much does it cost me as a leader to come to camp?

The cost for leaders is £40

How much does it cost to come on staff?

£110 including staff catering (£40 if catering is not required)
